We took a boat ride out of Ponce, to Isla de Caja de Muerto. (Coffin Island).  WE docked way over on the right, and had to hike maybe 3/4 of a mile on a path through cactus and then got to the base of the hill.  Bob says he thinks it is at least a 600 ft. climb.  And the climb was almost straight up, and a rough path, boulders, rocks.  It was hot.  It was the hardest hike I ever took to a lighthouse, and I really was afraid Bob wouldn't make it.  He did.  BUT, he thought I had the bottle of water and I though HE had the bottle of water.  There was a cistern where we could pour water over our heads, but not drink it.  By the time I got to the bottom again, I thought I was going to have a heat stroke.  Raffie, the Captain of the boat hiked with us.. When we were back on the flat path, we saw an animal dash across the path.  Raffie said it was an "agouti", whatever that was, very rare, and he had only seen one in seven years.
  The lighthouse was beautiful and we were glad we made the climb.  There was a seismic crew working up there and they had the door open, so we were able to go inside.  By the way, we were talking to some Coast Guard a few days later at Aquadilla.  They said they NEVER climbed that hill, it was too hard a climb.  They always lowered men and equipment from a helicopter.
