Newport Harbor Lighthouse

This is not the first
lighthouse to be
Newport Harbor. An earlier one was
built on a nearby breakwater and
found to be inadequate. It was replaced
by the current one, built on a new
breakwater in 1842. In 1852, the
older lighthouse was moved to Sandy
Point, Prudence Island R.I.
This, the current lighthouse
once
had a large keepers house
attached and many outbuildings
on this same breakwater. |
