Bellevue Rear Range Lighthouse
DL 2 I
This is the only
lighthouse to have been in
TWO rivers, without ever having been
moved. It was built in the Delaware
River near the Christiana River.
The rivers changed their courses and it
now stands in the Christiana River.
This is a very difficult
lighthouse to photo-
graph. Our very first photo of it was from
across the river with a long lens.
It is in very large landfill. We had been
told some years back, that with special
permission, you could go in and photo-
graph it. Well, when we got there, we
were told it was too dangerous and they
no longer allowed visitors to the lighthouse.
But when they found out we had come all
the way from Florida to photograph it, they
allowed us in. We all had to wear hard hats
and safety green vests. A man in a pickup
guided us in, told us to take our time and
pointed out the way out.
We had to join the traffic of GIANT garbage
trucks and all traffic had to go the same
counterclockwise direction. It was scary.
Our car was like a little bug being chased
down by giants. We were so relieved when
we got out of there with our lives.
